Dolls Kill Is Selling a “Sexy Bernie Sanders” Halloween Costume - Teen Vogue

If you’re a #HotGirlForBernie, we might need to chat. It has come to our attention that there is a “Sexy Bernie Sanders” costume on the market in preparation for this upcoming spooky season.

The brains behind the new Halloween costume that perhaps could have remained an inside joke in the group chat and not a fully executed product is Dolls Kill, the online fast fashion go-to retailer for today’s contemporary alt girl. The costume is inspired by the highly-meme'd image from Inauguration Day earlier this year, where Bernie Sanders, setting himself apart from his highly ornamented political peers, dressed for practicality in a warm-looking coat and mittens.

The new Halloween costume is from Dolls Kill's Trickz N' Treatz collection and it's been dubbed the “Once Again Asking” set. It retails for $85 and includes a Polyester-blend grey coat, mittens, and a face mask. (Hey, at least the latter it's useful!) As expected, the costume is generating buzz on the internet — for better or for worse.

Aside from the “Sexy Bernie” angle, we can all agree that it is rather strange that we’re talking about the man who wanted to raise the minimum wage while wearing a one-time-use outfit from a notorious fast-fashion retailer. (Fast fashion and overconsumption are not topics that should be talked about in broad strokes. We all know by now that the fast fashion conversation has layers and nuances, but even one Halloween costume has its implications).

If you really want to go for this costume — or, at least its non-sexy version — you probably have the pieces in your wardrobe to DIY it anyway without buying new clothes or spending a dime. (If you are missing the mittens, you could even buy some from the teacher who made Bernie's pair, which also happen to be sustainable). Regardless, note that unless you’re planning on bringing a folding chair to your Halloween parties and sitting down (with your arms crossed) all night, the joke might not even really land.
