Maluma Releases a Sexy Tie-Dye Collaboration - Vogue.com

Besides his undeniable musical gifts, the man has style in spades, and, as he notes several times throughout the interview, “I feel like my love for fashion is growing everyday.” Just this week, he wore a custom Balmain suit to the VMAs that’s set to reappear in the brand’s show in Paris later this fall. He’s fast becoming a fashion favorite. And it’s easy to see why. The 26-year-old has the power to flaunt megawatt looks with ease. (It doesn’t hurt that he has a smile worthy of a Crest commercial and an unbelievably symmetrical face, too). Maluma might wear something that teeters dangerously on the edge of gaudy, something overly flamboyant even, but somehow always manages to pull it off. He also knows how to make the most fashion-forward looks appear totally seductive. Just last June, he rocked up to Paris Fashion Week Men’s, in one of JW Anderson’s cool patchworked wool shirts. In his hands, the chunky knitwear look well, really, really hot.

The new 12-piece collection synthesizes his most beloved fashion obsessions, and includes a tie-dyed hoodie in shades of baby pink and Robin egg blue, that’s been on heavy rotation in his WFH wardrobe. “Every time I wear it, it is time to rest and chill, and put my head in a good spot,” he says. There is also a pair of cycling shorts inspired by his newfound lockdown passion. “Well, now my love, we are riding bicycles. I am obsessed. I got a new bicycle and I love riding bicycles everyday,” he says. “I think that girls look very hot wearing the bikers [bicycle shorts]. We always want people to look beautiful. That is why we decided to release the bikers.” The clothes are awash with color, which should come as no surprise since Maluma is one of the most colorfully dressed artists in music. “My life right now is full of colors and beautiful. It is a good energy, and that is how we want to show the fashion line with Michelob,” he says. “I feel like color for me is a different way to heal. That is why I really like the things that I’m doing right now, my fashion, my music. I feel connected by the universe.”

With a new collaboration under his belt, Maluma’s presence in the fashion world seems primed to get even bigger. He name drops his favorite designers and labels, the likes of Donatella Versace, Kim Jones of Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, and the aforementioned Balmain creative director, Olivier Rousteing. “I feel this connection with these designers around the world,” he says. “I would really love in the near future to make a Maluma brand. Maybe my own brand, my own capsules with different brands. Maybe Balmain, maybe Dior,” he says. Maybe this will happen sooner than later. “I wake up, I get obsessed, and I look at my closet. I’m like, ‘Fuck, I want to wear something badass’ I really want to change the game,” he says. “I don’t want to keep following trends, I want to be the trend.”

Maluma x Michelob is available on September 2 on shopmaluma.com.
