Anupamaa fans, brace yourself. For the first time in the history of Indian entertainment, the prequel of a TV show will see the television cast reprise their roles for the digital screen. In an endeavour to revolutionise Indian storytelling, Disney+ Hotstar brings for its viewers an 11 episodic prequel to one of the highest-rated Hindi television show, Anupamaa. The OTT platform will exclusively release a prequel of the Rupali Ganguly-starrer soon, which will aim at offering viewers a closer look at Anupama’s life, a few years into her marriage.
ANUPAMAA NOW ON OTT
The 11-episode prelude to the television series Anupamaa will see Rupali Ganguly, who plays the lead character on television, reprise her popular role in the digital space. Joining her will be her on-screen husband Vanraj, played by Sudhanshu Pandey, as well as the entire cast of the TV show. The episodes will be released over 11 days and will remain exclusively on the platform. The prequel to Anupamaa will not be aired on television.
Gaurav Banerjee, Head, Content Disney+ Hotstar and HSM Entertainment Network, Disney Star, commenting on Disney+ Hotstar being the first streaming platform to launch a prequel of an on-going television series, said, "Experimenting with new formats is a norm at Disney+ Hotstar, and this vision has led to the genesis of a prequel of audience's favourite television show. ABOUT ANUPAMAA
Anupamaa launched in July 2020 on television and has already aired over 500 episodes, available on both Star Plus and Disney+ Hotstar. Adapted in Hindi from the popular Bengali series Sreemoyee, Anupamaa follows the life of a Gujarati homemaker, Anupama, played by Rupali. Compassionate, loving and devoted to her family and husband, Anupama rarely receives the respect she deserves in the house. The show revolves around her struggles to find her independence and voice in life.
The release date of this Anupamaa prequel has not been announced yet.
